- Urgency — "hurry," "only seconds left," "act now"
- Secrecy — "don't tell your parents," "just between us," or coded phrases kids use to warn each other a parent is nearby
- Personal questions — asking your name, age, gender, school, or address
- Too-good-to-be-true offers — free prizes, gift cards, "you won"
- Money or password requests — asking to pay, verify, or send login info
- Requests to meet up or move to another app — especially ones that ask to keep it secret
- Requests for photos or getting undressed on camera — never something a nice person asks a kid
Red-flag patterns are based on categories documented by child-safety organizations including NCMEC, Internet Safety 101, and the Child Rescue Coalition. Some real predator codes are just plain numbers (like "9" or "99") — those can't be reliably auto-detected in free text, so if a message is ever confusing or code-like, the safest move is always the same: screenshot it and ask a trusted adult.
